What is Dark Web?

The term 'Dark Web' is too much used nowadays. Do you know what does it mean? If not then read the whole article and you will know.



Web is divided into three parts

 1. Surface Web
 2. Deep Web
 3. Dark web



Surface Web is the web that you use everyday. It is easily available for general public who use standard search engines and web browsers.



Deep Web is the portion of the web that is not easily accessible and searchable by regular search engines. In order to access the Deep Web users must log in or have a specific url or IP address to find and access the websites. Some Websites are part of the Deep Web because they do not use Top-Level Domains like .com, .in, .gov etc.



Dark Web is a less accessible part of the Deep Web that requires special tools to access it. Two of the most popular tools to access the Dark Web are Tor Browser and I2P Browser. These tools are commonly used to become anonymous and access the Dark Web. Dark Web is mostly used for illegal activities like drug dealing, selling illegal weapons, stolen data etc. However, Dark Web is also used for some legitimate activities as well, including accessing information, sharing information, protecting one’s identity, and communicating with others. Many news organizations operate on the Dark Web to protect confidential sources.

Fake News

 Fake news is like a virus it spreads very quickly and it has potential to cause riots. Fake news spreads mainly through word of mouth and social media.  2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, which claimed over 60 lives and displaced over 40,000 people, were a result of videos circulated on WhatsApp. According to Wikipedia Indian security and intelligence agencies reportedly identified nearly 5000 social media handles from Pakistan which were spreading fake and false propaganda on CAA, some using deep fake videos in the process.  Rajdeep Sardesai, a well-known journalist with a national news channel on August 13 2020 tweeted that former President of India Pranab Mukherjee has passed away, although he really passed away on 31st august 2020 after 18 days of his tweet.  Spread of fake news can cause many disastrous consequences, so it is our duty that we do not share any information which is 100% authentic. To check authenticity of an information you can use search engines.
